CLARK & JEWELL ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS WITH ANOTHER UPSET WIN;A. HANNEMANN & SCOTT EARN SECOND-STRAIGHT SEMI-FINAL BERTH
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. - Eighth-seeded Ian Clark and Adam Jewell scored a 21-12
and 21-18 win in The Paul Mitchell at Virginia Beach's opening match here
Sunday (July 29) to advance to the semi-finals of the $62,500 event that
started with rainy conditions on the Sixth Avenue Beach.
With the win, Clark advanced to his first semi-final in an Association of
Volleyball Professionals (AVP) event since May 23, 1999 in New Orleans with
Bill Bouillianne when the pair placed fourth.  While Clark and Jewell were
joined in the semi-finals by Sunday's other winner's bracket winners
third-seeded Albert Hannemann and Sean Scott, top-seeded Canyon Ceman and Mike
Whitmarsh were eliminated.Fourth-seeded Scott Ayakatubby and Eduardo Bacil rallied from a first game defeat and a 13-12 deficit in the deciding game to defeat Ceman and Whitmarsh 17-21, 21-19 and 15-13.  Second-seeded Brent Doble and Lee LeGrande, who had a 14-match winning streak snapped Saturday, who their opening elimination match
Sunday by defeating ninth-seeded Scott Davenport and Jeff Nygaard 22-20 and
21-14 in the rain.
