Youngs & Arce "Hard Rock High Rollers" in $150,000 Paul Mitchell Queen of the
Beach Play in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NEV. - Elaine Youngs and Lisa Arce were the "Hard Rock High Rollers"
here Friday (September 7) as both women scored two wins each to take a lead
into Saturday's final second round pool play matches in the Paul Mitchell Queen
of the Beach competition.

While the women were playing two matches each in two pools of four players
each, the men played only one match in their two pools.  The second round of
the $150,000 Paul Mitchell King & Queen of the Beach concludes Saturday when
two players from each pool will advance to the "final four" in the heated
Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) action.

The top-seeded player in the Paul Mitchell Queen of the Beach competition,
Youngs won her matches with Leanne Schuster and Wendy Stammer to take control
of the women's Pool C.  Schuster and Stammer are 1-1 in Pool C with Holly
McPeak fourth at 0-2.  McPeak won the Queen of the Beach title in 1999.

In women's Pool D, the third-seeded Arce won her matches with Sarah Straton and
Liz Masakayan to gain the lead.  Straton and Masakayan had 1-1 match marks
Friday while Barbra Fontana, the 2000 Paul Mitchell Queen of the Beach
champion, is 0-2.  Arce won the QOB title in 1998.

Both McPeak and Fontana can gain a spot in Sunday's final pool play rounds if
they can win their matches 2-0 Saturday with Youngs and Arce, respectively.  In
doing so, McPeak must not allow her opponents to score more than 35 points
while Fontana's opposition can not score more than 32 points in the match.

The winners of the men's Paul Mitchell King of the Beach matches Friday were
Stein Metzger and Todd Rogers in Pool D and Dax Holdren and Kevin Wong in Pool
C.  Whitmarsh is the defending KOB champion.

A total of $57,000 has already been awarded in the competition with Holdren,
Rogers, Schuster and Masakayan earning $5,500 each.  All four players competed
Thursday in the opening pool play rounds at Las Vegas' Sunset Park and earned
$3,000 each by winning three matches each.  Sunday's winning player in each
gender will earn an additional $10,000 for being the King and Queen of the
Beach.

Tickets are on sale for the final two days at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Box
Office (800-693-ROCK) or through any TicketMaster outlet.  Ticket prices range
from $5 to $15 per day.  The first matches will start at 10 a.m. (PDT) Saturday
and Sunday on the purpose-built AVP Hard Rock Beach Stadium.

The 10th annual Paul Mitchell King & Queen of the Beach, being hosted for the
fifth consecutive year by the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, concludes
the eight-stop 2001 AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour.  The special tournament,
with players switching partners for each match, will conclude Sunday.

The official entries for The Paul Mitchell King & Queen of the Beach were
identified with a player's top three finishes during the 2001 domestic season
determining the top 14 players in each gender for Las Vegas.
