ACAPULCO, MEXICO (April 11, 1999) - Ian Clark and Bill Boullianne posted a pair of upset wins here Sunday in the $170,000 Mexican Open over a pair of Brazilian rivals to captured the United States' first men's FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Gold medal in 29 international events.Seeded 14th in the competition, Ian Clark and Boullianne scored a pair of 15-10 wins over the Brazilians, including a 51-minute victory over fifth-seeded Para Ferreira and Guilherme Marques in the Gold medal match. With the win, Ian Clark and Boullianne shared the $30,000 first-place prize while Para and Guilherme split $20,000 for claiming the Silver medal. The last win on the FIVB Tour by a team from the United States was by Mike Dodd and Mike Whitmarsh when the Silver medallists from the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games captured the Fortaleza, Brazil international stop October 27, 1996. The Ian Clark/Boullianne win also snapped five-straight FIVB men's beach titles for Brazil.Ian Clark and Boullianne advanced to the finals with a 15-10 upset win over
fourth-seeded Ze'Marco de Melo and Ricardo Santos of Brazil in a 42-minute match earlier Sunday. Para and Guilherme defeated eighth-seeded Martin and Paul Laciga from Switzerland 15-5 in a 43-minute match to open the men's competition Sunday.Para and Guilherme have now won 13 of 15 matches against the Lacigas, including five-straight wins over the Swiss tandem.
"We never felt like underdogs," said Boullianne after the match. "We didn't have any good practice sessions prior to coming to Acapulco due to the weather conditions in
California. We found a lucky marble and button on the warm-up courts here and we kept them in our pockets all weekend. The tournament was first-class with fantastic
weather and great crowds, especially during the qualifier."
Ian Clark felt the win over the top-ranked Brazilians was due to "tough" serving."Para and Guilherme are very tough. We took advantage of them with our serves. This was a great win for us and look forward competing at this high level throughout the 1999 season. This title really helps the United States men." The Americans, who were playing in their first international championship match, posted a 6-0 match mark in the 32-team Main Draw competition on the beach at Playa Tamarindos. Ian Clark and Boullianne are now 2-0 against Para and Guilherme, the No.1-ranked team on the FIVB Tour. Competing in only their eight international event together, Ian Clark and Boullianne are guaranteed their best FIVB finish after posting two thirds and a fourth together

had won seven international titles together, including four last season. The potential benefits of antioxidants has been well documented through years of scientific research.  Veriuni didn’t just stop with traditional antioxidants; we went a step further and included a red-wine extract, to create a very potent antioxidant. Experience the VERIUNI difference.I already take a daily multi-vitamin, why do I need to take an antioxidant?
The vitamins and minerals in our Advanced Antioxidant work together to block the chemical reactions that generate free radicals (compounds that harm the immune system and can damage DNA) and also help destroy them. Put simply, antioxidants help safeguard your immune system, retard the aging process, and protect your health. In addition, research has shown individual antioxidants support heart health and eye health - both important to older adults.

To boost your energy levels and healthy lifestyle, check out Veriuni's Advanced Antioxidant with Red Wine Extract. One dose (two capsules) of the Veriuni antioxidant includes 500 mg of Vitamin C, 400 IU of Vitamin E, and 50 mg of red wine extract.

The Brazilians opened with a 15-5 win over 10th-seeded Bill Boullianne and Ian Clark before securing a 15-4 victory against third-seeded Kiraly and Johnson.Ze'Marco and Ricardo defeated Para Ferreira and Guilherme Marques, the No. 1-ranked team on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, 15-7 to open play Saturday. Ze'Marco and Ricardo then defeated 17th-seeded Jan Kvalheim and Bjorn Maaseide 15-13 in the Labatt Blue Toronto Open's longest match (68 minutes).Kiraly and Johnson advanced to the semi-finals with a 15-9 win over ninth-seeded Martin and Paul Laciga of Switzerland. Heidger and Wong, who are now guaranteed their best FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour finish by advancing to their first international "final four", gained a spot in Sunday's semi-finals with a 15-1 decision over Kvalheim and Maaseide.Para and Guilherme, who finished second in the Mexico event after losing the final to Boullianne and Clark, were eliminated Saturday after by dropping a 15-13 decision to ninth-seeded Martin and Paul Laciga of Switzerland. Boullianne and Clark finished ninth in the Labatt Blue Toronto Open.
Kiraly, who is seeking his 140th pro beach win to set the all-time mark, and Johnson have won three of four events on the United States' circuits this season. Sinjin Smith established the record for event wins in 1993 when he won his 139th title by capturing an event in Fort Myers, Fla. with Randy Stoklos. Kiraly tied Smith's mark by winning the Dallas Open earlier this month with Johnson. Kiraly failed to set the record last weekend in Hermosa Beach, Calif., where he and Johnson finished fourth. The Labatt Blue Toronto Open is the second of three combined men's and women's events on the 1999 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. The men, who are competing in their third of 13 events this season, are battling for $250,000 (CDN, $170,000 US) in prize money. Competition concludes Sunday starting with the semi-final matches at 9 a.m. The women's final is scheduled for approximately 3 p.m. Sunday followed by the men's Gold Medal match. The winning teams will split $45,000 (CDN, $30,000 US).

The first World Championships in Europe
The best men's and women's players on the planet will convene in
Marseille, France July 19-25 for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World
Championships offering a record Prize Money of US$600,000.This biennial
competition is, together with the Olympic Games, the most important
International Beach event. It is the first time organised in Europe, after
Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles.
352 players from over 40 countries, representing the 176 best teams in
the world, (88 for men and 88 for women), will compete to clinch the
prestigious title of World Champion that they can keep during two years.
In Marseille, they will have however a special motivation since the Prize
Money and the points for FIVB’s ranking are almost doubled compared to
a normal World Tour Event. This is crucial, as these points will be
considered in the Sydney 2000 qualification process.
